  • Overview

    The Peer Recovery Specialist (CRPA) will provide strengths-based guidance and substance use recovery supports to clients to motivate and assist them with making a decision to engage in treatment. The Peer Recovery Specialist will help clients resolve barriers to achieving self-sufficiency. The Peer Recovery Specialist will work with women in the community to support our Maternal Wraparound Program by providing recovery supports to pregnant and postpartum women with opioid use disorders (OUD).

    Responsibilities

    • Accompany clients to appointment, on transportation, and assist in reducing barriers to accessing care.
    • Assist clients to identify goals, strengths, and personal interests helpful in recovery by providing didactic information.
    • Motivate clients to attend treatment programs; find ways to help clients consider stopping/reducing using substances or reducing the risk associated with addictive behaviors.
    • Utilize a trauma-informed approach to promote clients right to self-determination and provide services in a manner that emphasizes the women’s safety, respect and dignity. 
    • Participate in outreach to clients who are ambivalent about the assessment process, and discuss the process with them.
    • Facilitate recovery oriented discussions with clients in the community.
    • Become a Narcan responder and dispenser by attending training and becoming certified in dispensation of Narcan; train clients on the use of Narcan and provide kits and guidance on proper procedures of its use.
    • Promote self-advocacy and identify community resources that support clients' goals and interests and share them with clients under the supervision of M-WRAP Social Worker.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Associate Degree or certification equivalent required. Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred.  
    • At least one year experience in a similar role. Experience working with pregnant or post-partum women highly preferred.
    • Active NYS CRPA certification required.
    • Computer literate.
    • Comfortable acting as a leader and able to model recovery behaviors.
    • Able to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with staff and clients.
    • Good interpersonal skills and high enthusiasm about recovery.
    • Familiar with Motivational Interviewing and Strengths-Based Best Practices.
